THE SURFERS JOURNAL 33.6
On the cover of our new issue: Tahurai Henry (@tahuraihenry), velocity and shadows at Teahupoo. “I wanted to convey the sense of speed and energy that goes along with the wave itself,” says photographer Ben Thouard (@benthouard), “but I also wanted to experiment with light and the silhouette of the rider. A lot of attempts went into capturing this photo. This one stood out from the others.” Back cover: Prototypical Jeff Divine (@jeffdivinephotographer) image, replete with rainbow, analog-era film tones, and empty North Shore bliss at Pipeline, 1979.
In this issue, we investigate the properties and mystique of magic surfboards, pull from Divine’s 50-year-deep photo file, walk the beach with artist and scavenger Jim Olarte (@jimolarte), rap out with pro skater Elissa Steamer (@elissa_steamer), and view prime selects by South African photographer Ant Fox (@antfoxphoto). Freddie Meadows (@freddiemeadows) manifests Norse mythology at a Northern Europe slab, and Harrison Roach (@harrisonsan), Nate Zoller (@natezoller), and more session right points between blizzards in the Arctic Ocean. With plenty more waypoints along the way, TSJ 33.6 is a trip worth taking.
